Some people want a weekend planned to the minute. Others want to be told, gently, that doing nothing is a legitimate option.

We have prepared for both of you.

Below is this coming weekend at Belleayre, laid out two ways. Pick your temperament. Or mix them, which is what most people actually do around hour four.

Take a dreamy Thunder Gondola ride up Belleayre Mountain

Saturday, September 26

The Ambitious Version

8:30 AM. Coffee on the porch. The air will do something to you that a thermostat cannot.

10:00 AM. The Catskill Thunder Gondola starts turning. Weekends only, 10 to 5, through October 11. Twenty dollars round trip for adults, fifteen for seniors and teens. Fifteen minutes from our door.

10:40 AM. You are at the summit of a 3,400-foot mountain having taken roughly eleven steps. Bring a picnic. Sit somewhere with a view. Your knees will write you a thank-you note.

12:30 PM. Drive to Delhi for the Harvest Festival on Main Street and Courthouse Square, 10 to 4. Local makers, farmers, food, live music from Bobby Curious. Buy a pie. Tell yourself it's for tomorrow.

7:00 PM. The Print House in Fleischmanns. Craft cocktails and a wall of vinyl. Ten minutes away.

The Horizontal Version

Whenever. Coffee. Porch. Book.

Later. A walk that turns around whenever you feel like it.

Eventually. The pie. All of it. No witnesses.

Select some fresh veggies at the local farmers market.

Sunday, September 27

10:00 AM. Phoenicia Farmers Market at Parish Field, 10 to 2, rain or shine, running through October 25.

This Sunday's lineup includes Hudson Valley Tempeh, Union Grove Distillery, Windfall Farms, Mossy Stone Farm, Van Roy's Caribbean Grill and Land of the Tamal, plus the weekly regulars.

Bring a tote. "We're only looking" has a poor survival rate here.

12:30 PM. Lunch at Bettina in Phoenicia, or take the market haul back and eat it on the porch like a person with excellent instincts.

Now Put October in Your Calendar

The Belleayre Fall Festival runs October 3, 4, 10 and 11, from 10 to 5. Free admission, free parking.

Here is the part nobody tells you. There is a stein holding contest at 1:00 PM and a pie eating contest at 1:30 PM, every festival day. Thirty minutes apart. We have thoughts about that sequencing and we support it completely.

Also on the schedule: live music on the Subaru Stage, noon to 4. Rivals NY on the 3rd, Dog Party Band on the 4th, Evil Genius on the 10th, The 209s on the 11th. Pumpkin painting, a climbing wall, a bounce house, free disc golf, a food truck village, and Brews & Views for the grown-ups. Gondola rides are extra.

Four festival days. Four rooms available per day, roughly. You see the problem.
