Free Live Music return, a Lake, and Zero Plans: Weekend at Belleayre Mountain
Some summer weekends feel overplanned before they even start. This one doesn't need to be.
Friday evening: free live music at Belleayre Mountain. Saturday: lake time and a quiet morning walk in cool mountain air. Sunday: a hike through the Catskills before you head home. That's the whole plan, and it's a good one.
Friday: Free Live Music Returns to the Discovery Lodge
This Friday, July 24, Music on the Belle kicks off its summer season at Belleayre's Discovery Lodge. Opening night features the Lara Hope Band, live from 6 to 9 PM. Admission and parking are free.
Last summer, these Friday nights became one of our favorite local traditions. The weather cooperated, the crowd was relaxed, and the mountain made a backdrop no venue in the city can compete with. People showed up with family and friends, found a spot outside, and just let the evening happen. Food and drinks nearby, music in the air, that particular Catskills quality of everyone slowing down at the same time. Lively without being crowded. Fun without needing a plan.
The forecast for Friday is about as good as it gets: sunny, a high near 76°F, cooling off comfortably once the sun starts to drop. Exactly the kind of evening built for standing outside and listening to a band.
The full summer series runs every Friday from July 24 through August 28. See the event details and full lineup or check the Belleayre calendar for what else is on the mountain this month.
Saturday: Slow Mornings and Lake Time
After a Friday night out, Saturday should start slow. Coffee, a walk while the air is still cool, the roads around Highmount at their quietest before the rest of the mountain wakes up.
Then head to Belleayre Beach in nearby Pine Hill. Swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, volleyball, picnic tables, all the ingredients for an afternoon where the only real decision is whether to get back in the water. Bring a book. Find a spot near the shore. Stay longer than you planned to.
Sunday: Take the Hike
If you want something more active before heading home, the trails around Belleayre and the surrounding Catskills deliver. Morning is the move: cooler air, quiet woods, and views worth the climb. You don't need to summit anything to make it worthwhile. Sometimes the best part is just being outside long enough to remember what that feels like.
Belleayre also runs scenic gondola rides, disc golf, and a climbing wall through the summer season, in case anyone in your group wants a lower-effort mountain day. See the full rundown on Belleayre's summer activities page.
